During the antiquity, Tilos was known for its textiles and perfumes that were exported. Nowadays, the island is trying to keep its residents through a tourism economy, which is its main developmental axis, and to a small extent through the activities of the primary sector (agriculture, livestock-farming and apiculture). The residents do not engage in significant fishery, which is really surprising as Tilos is an island. Their interest has always focused on rural and farming activities. The cultivation of Eristos valley has increased the growth of floriculture, the cultivation of almond and olive trees and apiculture.
You can find a large variety of local products on Tilos island. Potatoes, tomatoes, watermelons, melons, grapes, olives, almonds and honey are some of the products that are produced on the island and are of the best quality. The wood carved elephants constitute a beautiful gift that is directly connected to the island history. There are also other gifts that you can find in gift shops. Buses and taxis are available for our transportation around the island. For those who desire independence in their movements, there are available cars and motorbikes for rent.
